The Department of Documentation Science and Information Activities was established in 1998 at the Faculty of Humanities, and it has been a part of the Faculty of Political and Information Management since 2005. In November 2018, the department celebrated its 20th anniversary. It provides training for specialists at two levels of higher education (full-time and part-time forms).
The main purpose of educational and professional programs for applicants of the first (bachelor’s degree) and the second (master’s degree) levels of higher education in the specialty 029 Information, Library and Archives Management is to train highly qualified specialists who are able to:
- provide a variety of information and analytical services;
- develop information products and algorithms for their creation;
- understand the principles, approaches and types of information management, documentation management in institutions, enterprises and organizations;
- easily adapt to new professions, types and forms of employment in information activities in the face of constant changes in socio-economic development of the society;
- independently conduct scientific research in the information sphere.
Curricula of the first (bachelor’s degree) and the second (master’s degree) levels of higher education include the following groups of professionally-oriented disciplines:
- I “Documentary Resources and Information Activities”: “Documentation Science I,” “Documentation Science II: Record Keeping,” “Documentation Science III: Electronic Document Management and Electronic Resources of Documentation Science,” “Library Management,” “Archives Management,” “Documentary and Information Communications,” “Analytical and Synthetic Information Processing.”
- II “Information Management”: “Management Theory,” “Information Management and Management of Social Networks,” “Workshop on Referencing and Office Work,” “Project Management,” “Brand Management in Information Activities,” “Strategic Management of Information and Communication Processes.”
- III “Social Communications and Analytical Work”: “Theory and Practice of Mass Information,” “Theory and Practice of Public Relations,” “Marketing of Information Products and Services,” “Applied Social Communion Technologies,” “Information and Analytical Activities,” “Integrated Marketing Communications in Information Activities,” “System Analysis of Information Processes.”
Annually the department holds thematic scientific conferences:
- “Library Management in Modern Information and Communication Processes: Trends and Prospects” (together with the Scientific Library of the National University of Ostroh Academy);
- “New Information Situation and Trends of Alternative Development of Mass Media in Ukraine.”
