The longest relay reading marathon is 456 hr and was organized by the National University of Ostroh Academy (Ukraine) in Ostroh, Rivne Region, Ukraine, on 18 March 2014.
Students, instructors and guests of the National University of Ostroh Academy came up with the idea to celebrate the birthday of the Ukrainian poet, Taras Shevchenko (9th March), by surpassing the existing record for the longest relay reading marathon. The plan was to read aloud all Shevchenko’s published poetry in the hope to attract attention of the European Community to the work of Shevchenko and encourage reading of his work. The reading took place in a specially equipped auditorium with recording, timing and broadcasting facilities. There was also a 24-hour online video broadcast on the official website of the Ostroh Academy. After completing the marathon, the Ukraine Book of Records honored the attempt with a diploma confirming the achievement in the category ’Mass Actions’.
