On February 10, 2025, the National University of Ostroh Academy launched a significant initiative to regulate the usage of artificial intelligence technology in educational, scientific, and institutional administration activities. The university's Founding Rector and the Academic Council Chairman, Ihor Pasichnyk, proposed creating a comprehensive university policy on AI usage. Developing such a policy is not just essential, but a crucial step for effectively implementing and regulating AI within the university, covering ethical, legal, and technical aspects.
To achieve this, Ostroh Academy has established a working group led by the Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching, Dmytro Shevchuk. The group's task is to study the experience of leading foreign universities and develop its own solutions and documents that will define the principles of AI regulation implemented at the university. This regulation is not just about implementing AI, but about balancing innovation with the safe use of AI, ensuring the quality of education and research while preventing violations of academic integrity. This commitment should reassure the university community about the responsible use of AI.
"Artificial intelligence is becoming a widespread and accessible technology. Like any technology, AI can provide opportunities for development and knowledge acquisition. Still, it can also be misused to violate academic integrity. Therefore, our university aims to develop norms and guidelines for AI usage, defining which AI tools are permissible in the educational process (for instance, data analysis, language learning, etc.). It is also crucial to create training courses for academic staff on the possibilities of using AI for educational and research purposes,"
