Ostroh Academy Once Again Сonfirms its Status as a Sustainable, Environmentally-Friendly University

February 10, 2025

According to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, which evaluates universities all over the world in terms of environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water resources, transportation, environmental education and research, the National University of Ostroh Academy was ranked third out of 25 Ukrainian universities represented in this year's ranking and 448th in the world in general. This year's ranking involved 1477 universities from 95 countries, including 25 Ukrainian universities. This ranking is a significant achievement for Ostroh Academy, as it demonstrates the university's global standing and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Specifically, according to the ranking, Ostroh Academy has risen to second place among Ukrainian universities in terms of ecological energy use, climate change, and waste management. This not only indicates the university's local care for the environment but also its global impact. By using energy-saving devices and water-saving technologies, Ostroh Academy is fostering environmental awareness among its students, contributing to a larger global cause.

Confirming its status as a leading Ukrainian educational institution, Ostroh Academy continues implementing innovations, taking care of the ongoing educational process and environmental responsibility. Recently, the university installed solar panels that not only save electricity consumption from external sources and ensure stable power supply in the conditions of possible power outages when the country's energy system is undergoing serious challenges but also save money and can be rationally used for other institution needs.

Nataliia Melnychuk, Vice-Rector for Administrative and Economic Work, Master in Architecture, noted:

"The university administration decided to use the hybrid power plant to ensure an uninterrupted educational process. This enables full functionality of computer labs and academic departments. We also plan to increase the capacity of these hybrid power plants to the maximum possible. We are connecting additional equipment that will make it possible to ensure the educational process at the university."

The benefits of solar panels are not just environmental. They also reduce the university's dependence on traditional energy sources and help cut utility costs. This financial efficiency, combined with the environmental friendliness of solar energy, is a win-win situation for Ostroh Academy and its commitment to sustainability.
