Ostroh Academy Held the Young Bible Experts Contest

On March 22-24, the 16th All-Ukrainian Contest, Young Bible Experts 2024, was held at the Research Laboratory of Christian Ethics, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University of Ostroh Academy. The 2024 issue was «Leadership in the Light of the Bible».

During the opening ceremony, the participants accepted welcomes from Ihor Pasichnyk, the National University of Ostroh Academy Rector, Doctor of Science (Psychology), Professor; Vasyl Zhukovskyi, Doctor of Science (Pedagogics), Professor, Head of the Research Laboratory of Christian Ethics, Psychology and Pedagogy of the NaUOA, coordinator of the Contest; Vitalii Lototskyi, Archpriest, Rector of Rivne Theological Seminary; Ivan Bekh, Full Member of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (NAES), Doctor of Sciences (Psychology), Professor, Director of the Institute of Problems on Education, Honored Science and Technology Figure of Ukraine; Hryhorii Komendant, Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, President of the Ukrainian Bible Society; Rafail Turkoniak, Archimandrite of the Greek Catholic Church, Doctor of Theology and Doctor of Liturgy, Hieromonk of the Studite Order, Shevchenko Prize winner for the translation of the Ostroh Bible, honorary professor of the NaUOA, and others.

«I sincerely welcome everyone from the famous Ostroh Academy! The Ostroh Academy alums have dynamically spread Christian ideas, morals, and ethics across the Ukrainian lands. We are proud that the revived Ostroh Academy has continued these wonderful traditions from the very first days. We developed training programs and created textbooks. Christian ethics classes in schools were introduced at the initiative of our university. I want to thank Vasyl Zhukovskyi for organising the Contest and his extraordinary service to God, people, and Ostroh Academy.»,

Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Research Laboratory of Christian Ethics, Psychology and Pedagogy of the NaUOA Vasyl Zhukovskyi emphasised:

«It's been 16 years in a row as a group of enthusiasts from all over Ukraine has been holding the Contest «Young Bible Experts» at Ostroh Academy. We care about how the younger generation of our country grows up and what spiritual and moral values children and youth hold in their souls. We greatly desire children and young people to continue the traditions of their ancestors who made their historic choice for the benefit of Christianity in the tenth century. We have consistently held contests for many years, encouraging parents, children, teachers, and educational organisers to pay more attention to biblical values».

President of the Ukrainian Bible Society, Hryhorii Komendant, communicated:

«I thank Ostroh Academy for organising the Contest. I am extremely pleased to meet young Bible experts. The Bible is a book that opens eyes and gives light. May the Lord bless this meeting, all its professors, lecturers, teachers and children who participate».

Preschool children, pupils of grades 1-11 of general secondary education institutions, students of vocational schools, and students of higher education institutions of Ukraine participated in the 16th All-Ukrainian Contest «Young Bible Experts».

The purpose of the Contest is to promote the spiritual and moral upbringing of children and youth of our country based on biblical values.

The participants of the event were tested on their knowledge of the Holy Scripture, presented creative works, and interpreted famous Bible verses suggested by the jury members.
