On May 17, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted a presentation of the book “Stezhka Moho Zhyttia” (“Pathway of My Life”) written by the Doctor Honoris Causa of theology, professor of the Department of Religious Studies and Theolohy of the NUOA Leonid Yakobchuk. In the presentation took part the author, lecturers and students. In the book, Leonid Yakobchuk tells about the pages of his biography, including memories of his childhood and emigration abroad, the period of his recovery, family, etc. This work is dedicated to the memory of his beloved wife Yanina and his parents, Ostap and Vilita Yakobchuky.
“I want to tell in this book about my parents and my village, about Yanina and her parents, sisters and brothers, about my life in Vilnius and moving to Poland with my young wife and her family. About the city of Gdynia, where our eldest son Yaroslav was born. About the moment when I got the invitation from my brother Kyrylo to come to him to Argentina and our bare living in this country. The foreign countries are tempting for tourists rolling in money. However, they are pretty hostile to the young couple of teachers of biology and mathematics, who do not speak, what is even more, the language of these countries”, says professor Leonid Yakobchuk in the book.
It should be noted that professor Leonid Yakobchuk is originally from Rivne region. He graduated from the Pedagogical University in Lithuania, since he did not enter the Kyiv higher educational institutions due to the lack of a party ticket. Later, he moved to Poland, and from there - to Argentina. In South America, this multifaceted man has mastered a profession of jeweler. However, on this stage, Leonid Yakobchuk did not end the search for the pathway of his life. Having moved to the US, he worked at the church and was a radio presenter of programs for young people in Ukraine. For now, he has lived in the United States of America for more than forty years. Leonid Yakobchuk has found his destiny precisely as a pedagogue. He has been working as a teacher at Sunday schools, now teaching Christian ethics in the seminaries of Kyiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne and Dnipro, as well as in a number of biblical schools in the USA and Canada. During the previous 15 years, together with a journalist Levko Khmelkovskyi he has been editing a Christian page in the journal “Borysten” (USA), also, he has written four books devoted to theological issues. In the Ostroh Academy, Leonid Yakobchuk has been teaching subjects such as "Christian Ethics", "Bible and Cultural Phenomenon" and "Biblical Anthropology" for more than twenty years.
