December 13, 2018
On December 12, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted a meeting of the Ostroh Council of Regional Development. The event was attended by representatives of the Ostroh District State Administration, Ostroh City Council and the Ostroh Academy.
The event was opened with a welcoming speech of the Rector of the National University of Ostroh Academy, Professor Ihor Pasichnyk:
“I congratulate all partakers on the beginning of the meeting, and hope that during today's forum we will hear about the changes that have taken place in our city and its districts. After all, in four years, much has changed in the country and here, in particular. Since the Ostroh Academy is a big part of the city, I can also proudly say that our University is also constantly developing, in particular the new campus of it.”
During the session of the Council, issues of economic, social, cultural, spiritual development of the region and formation of a perspective plan of development of Ostroh area in 2019-2021 were presented for consideration.
“We gathered here today to summarize our work in four years. What has the decentralization reform done for us. The Council of Regional Development is currently taking place throughout Ukraine at the district and regional level. Today, we are discussing the most urgent issues for our state: Ukrainian identity, morals, and spirituality. I am deeply convinced that this is the foundation that we have to set on a daily basis to really answer the following questions. Who are we, Ukrainians? Do we have our own church? Do we speak Ukrainian? What will the country be tomorrow? What kind of generation will we bring up tomorrow? And first of all, what we are talking about is decentralization and its positive effects.” – points out the Deputy Head of Rivne Oblast State Administration Oleksandr Korniichuk.
During the event, representatives of the Ostroh District State Administration, the Ostroh City Council and the Ostroh Academy delivered reports on the work that had been done, and made proposals to the plan for further development of the Ostroh area.
According to the First Deputy Mayor of Ostroh Olha Lohvyn, the Ostroh Academy is the largest contributor of the central tax to the city budget and a significant provider of work in Ostroh.
“The Ostroh Academy is a visiting card of Ostroh area. This is a unique university. Our task today is to take care of this institution of higher education, to help make it a founder of Ukrainian education.” stressed during his speech the people's deputy of Ukraine Yurii Vozniuk.
