Lecturers of the Department of Public Health of the National University of Ostroh Academy have launched a series of awareness-raising activities in order to promote a healthy lifestyle and fighting against harmful and socially dangerous habits.
The event was held in conjunction with World No Tobacco Day celebrated on May 30. Students were able to listen to a lecture and talk with PhD in Medical Sciences, the Head of the Department of the Regional Mental Health Facility Serhii Zahorodnii. The lecturer has told about the existing addictions, which negatively affect both physical and mental health.
During the discussion, he adduced many examples of his own practical professional experience, which raised interest from students and encouraged them to further discussions.
”Such harmful habits as smoking, drug addiction, alcoholism, etc. are today a significant problem of global scale and a real threat to health both of the individuals and of the whole populations. Public health experts are deeply concerned about the fact that in spite of the considerable efforts of society, the relevance of this issue is not reduced. Now it requires even more attention and joint efforts in the fight against such scourge of the society which poses a real threat to the gene pool of the Ukrainian nation and in general to the national security of our country. This event is the first one, and in the future we plan to hold such thematic meetings with students and schoolchildren. Thus, they will not remain indifferent to their health and the health of their relatives.”, comments the Head of the Department of Public Health Ihor Hushchuk.
