Collecting of comic books by Maksym Karpovets and Olesia Hoshchuk

On May 15, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted a lecture on collecting. Speakers were the acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Ph.D. Maksym Karpovets and the Head of the Center for Tourist Information, art expert Olesia Hoshchuk. The event took place as a part of the celebration devoted to the week of the Faculty of Humanities.

According to Olesia Hoshchuk, collecting is an extremely exciting process, but it takes a lot of time and investment.

The lecture was held in the form of an interactive conversation, during which Maksym Karpovets shared the experience of collecting comics and books, and talked about all the complexities of the collecting of English-language comics in Ukraine.

"Everything started during my childhood when I accidentally got an American comic book; however, consciously I bought the first collection comics in 2014", tells about the experience of collecting comics Maksym Karpovets.

In total the collection of Maksym Karpovets includes about three hundred and thirty books and more than seven hundred singles. Maksym Karpovets collects English-language comics, only occasionally purchasing versions translated by Ukrainian authors.

"For me, it is a fantastic hobby and an opportunity to rest from everyday routine, at the same time it is a part of life because it opens up new acquaintances, knowledge and opportunities for communication to me. In fact, I have never thought that this could become a serious hobby. I buy English-language comic books because comics is the basis of culture in general, and this kind of art is appreciated by all collectors. In other words, the likelihood that English-language comics will become a part of collectible value is extremely large, so it makes no sense to buy translated ones, although there are also rare instances among them", tells the lecturer.

For the best question from the audience, Maksym Karpovets presented several comics from his collection.

"I like the lecture very much. It is full of interesting, unusual and edutainment information. Collecting is a time consuming thing, but at the same time it is extremely ambitious and exciting", commented Daria Zaitseva, a student of the Faculty of Humanities.
