Ihor Pasichnyk: “The Best Students and Future Leaders of Ukrainian Nation Study at Ostroh Academy”

Inauguration 2016, the ceremony of initiation of the freshers into the students’ fraternity of the National University of Ostroh Academy took place on 1 September.

Traditionally, Knowledge Day started with a patriotic event. Students and faculty wearing vyshyvankas sang the national anthem of Ukraine.

This year almost 600 youngsters from different parts of Ukraine became the students of Ukrainian Oxford. For instance, for a 1st year student of Faculty of Humanities from Netishyn, Khmelnytskyi region, Yulian Novak becoming a student of Ostroh Academy has been a dream of many years. Therefore, during university admissions process he prioritised Ostroh Academy.

«My sister was studying at Ostroh Academy. I know that here I can get deep knowledge and qualification basis that will be sufficient for working in Ukraine as well as abroad. The atmosphere of Ostroh Academy, the Rector’s affability and cohesion of the students, pleasantly surprises me. I want to become a journalist who provides the public with objective and unbiased information we are lacking in nowadays»,

Following the good tradition the ceremony featured actors enacting the founders of Ostroh Academy (Prince Vasyl-Kostiantyn of Ostroh and Princess Halshka of Ostroh) and its famous professors and cultural workers (Ivan Fedorovych and Meletii Smotrytskyi). In the presence of faculty and the ceremony attenders the freshers made a vow of the student of the National University of Ostroh Academy and also were presented the Book of Life, the Holy Bible.

The vow was also made by the lecturers who obtained their PhD degrees previous year. There are 11 more Doctors of Philosophy at the university this year.

«This year university admissions process is a proof of the high rating of Ostroh Academy. We have 25 per cent more students than in previous year. Actually, representatives of all regions of Ukraine are now the students of Ostroh Academy. 120 students who were about to get government-financed education at other universities decided to become students of Ostroh Academy paying for their education themselves. The best students and future leaders of Ukrainian nation study at Ostroh Academy. Today Ostroh Academy graduates hold key positions in politics, business, journalism, etc.»

The Director of Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, PhD in Philology, professor, co-head of the Supervision Council of the National University of Ostroh Academy, the Member of Ostroh Academic Society Mykola Zhulynskyi, a famous Ukrainian poet, playwright, statesman, the first leader of the People’s Movement of Ukraine, the Hero of Ukraine Ivan Drach, PhD in economics, the Prorector of Ostroh Academy, the member of the Supervision Council of the National University of Ostroh Academy, the Member of Ostroh Academic Society Roman Vasylyshyn, a People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yurii Vozniuk, and mayor of Ostroh Oleksandr Shyker also congratulated the freshers.

At the end of the ceremony the freshers were invited to the temple of science, the National University of Ostroh Academy.

On the first day of their student life the freshers could attend lectures by Mykola Zhulynskyi, Ivan Drach and Maksym Karpovets (PhD in Philosophy, director of EU Information Centre at Ostroh Academy).

Moreover, the opening ceremony of exhibition Ostroh Plain Air and the Greeting Concert, organised by Ostroh Academy students took place on 1 September.
