October 07, 2013
On 4 October, the National University of Ostroh Academy held the awards ceremony of the All-Ukrainian contest Ukrainian National Character in Ulas Samchuk's Literary Heritage (ethno-philological, psychological, historical, politico-scientific, ethnolinguistic aspects). Yuliia Malivanchuk, Kateryna Kisilchuk and Iryna Samara took the first place in the Best Research nomination. The jury members acknowledged Nataliia Ratniuk's article as the most substantial mass-media publication about Ulas Sanchuk's creative work, and concluded that Olha Ivanova from Ulas Samchuk Kremenets Lyceum was the best in the Pupils' Best Work nomination.
The winners were awarded diplomas, books and money awards. Mariia Kukharuk and Nataliia Parfeniuk received honourable mention prizes from the contest organizers.
It is worth mentioning that it is the fourth time the contest takes place at Ostroh Academy on the initiative and with the support of the Sokolyk family. Yaroslav Sokolyk and his wife Oksana are members of Ukrainian diaspora and the only disponents of Ulas Samchuk's inheritance. "Owning to the efforts of the Sokolyk family, the monument to Ulas Samchuk was erected, the museum in his honour was opened in Rivne to mark his centennial; in turn, Ostroh Academy has republished the collection of his works to the wide reading public of Ukraine", said Ruslana Kalamazh Vice-Rector for Teaching and Education. "We intend to continue this contest next year. Therefore, we invite students, lecturers, pupils and teachers for cooperation".
According to Alla Atamanenko, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations and Director of the Institute for the Ukrainian Diaspora Studies, we should learn patriotism and love towards motherland following the example of Ulas Samchuk' life path and the Sokolyk family.
