Gender issues debated at Ostroh Academy

On 4-5 October, the 3rd International research and practical conference Gender issues and anthropological horizons was held at the National University of Ostroh Academy. It was organized by the Department of Culture Studies and Philosophy and the Department of Gender Studies. Researchers from Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Kryvyi Rih, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Simferopol, Poltava, Chernivtsi and other Ukrainian cities, as well as scholars from Kazakhstan and Russia took part in the conference.
During the plenary meeting a welcome speech was delivered by Ruslana Kalamazh, Vice-rector for Teaching and Education, and by Vasyl Zhukovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
«Being ethic is the most important thing in gender studies. Our roundtable discussions and conferences keep to this,» said Ruslana Kalamazh.
Titular report The impact of the Cartesian rationalism on gender philosophy by Iryna Holovashenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Humanities at Vinnytsia National Technical University, Director of Vinnytsia Educational Gender Centre, and the report Gender economic research methodology in the context of authority theories by Nataliia Kutsmus, a postdoctoral student of Zhytomyr National Agro-ecological University, were also delivered during the event.
The conference featured four sections: the first section was dedicated to gender philosophy and gender research methods, the second dealt with gender research activities in psychology and pedagogy and with gender stereotypes in education, the third section was dedicated to the mass media and advertisement issues, the fourth section was about gender roles in folklore and historical researches.
Reports delivered by Larysa Matsko, Cand.Sc. (Philosophy), Tetiana Danylchenko, Cand.Sc. (Psychology), Mariia Kostromytska, master student of Russian State Humanitarian University and by other participants caused a heated debate.
Mariia Petrushkevych, conference moderator and Associate Professor at the Department of Culture Studies and Philosophy, has underlined that the interest in gender issues is constantly growing among Ukrainian scholars.
