Travelling Saints icon exhibition opened in Ostroh Academy
March 13, 2013
On 13 March, the exhibition Travelling Saints featuring icon paintings by Ukrainian and Polish artists made at the 2nd International open-air icon-painting festival in Volyn opened in the Underground Art Gallery of Ostroh Academy.
Icons by Viktor Burchak, Roman Vasylyk, Przemysław Chojęta, Zenon Khorkavyi, Katarzyna Jakubowska and others are being exhibited here.
Tetiana Lukashevych, Head of Rivne regional branch of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine, said that she liked the idea of such open-air festivals, because they become a meeting place for artists of different countries and religions.
«It is interesting that the icon painters, whose works you can see here today, search for something new in canons. The world moves on and the icon-painting art needs updating. These icons become closer to us, because we apprehend them better», said Mrs Lukashevych.
Besides Ostroh Academy students and teaching staff, the exhibition was attended by Krzysztof Sawicki, Acting Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, and artists Volodymyr marchuk and Vasyl Krasiokha.
Ihor Pasichnyk, Rector of Ostroh Academy, thanked all exhibition organizers and presented Mr Sawicki with a certificate of appreciation for his distinguished contribution to the development of cooperation in science, education and culture between Ukraine and Poland.
