Happy Birthday Ostroh Academy!
October 01, 2013
On 1 October this year, the National University of Ostroh Academy celebrated its 437th birthday and 19 years since its revival. After Taras Shevchenko Poetry Marathon was over and a record of Ukraine has been established, the day of the University celebrations continued with a fair in the student park. They also call it Beegarden in Ostroh Academy. Greetings from Rector Pasichnyk (eng. ’Beekeper’), treating honey, ’beeart’ and the Best Bee Costume contest have already become a fine tradition of Ostroh Academy.
«It is a special holiday today because we can be proud of our achievements. This summer, the National University of Ostroh Academy was ranked fifth among all classical universities of Ukraine. I give credit of it to you, my dear students and professors,» said Ihor Pasichnyk in his greeting speech. «I wish you a sweet life, may this school year become a ’honeymoon’ for all of us. Long live Ostroh Academy!»
The fair featured pieces of art, photography, and embroidery by the creative students of the University; one could buy souvenirs with the University symbols, and those who felt like it could demonstrate their talents in a dance routine, a solo or theatrical performance.
The holiday concluded with a peculiar ’art-relax’. A paintings exhibition of Tetiana Mialkovska and Halyna Chernysh has been launched in the underground gallery of Ostroh Academy. Later, everyone could enjoy acoustic music played by the bands 5th Dimention from Kyiv and Lyrical Digression from Ostroh. The event was organised by the Ostradio student Internet radio station.
The festive mood could be sensed around the town as well. The volunteers of the Public Relations Office of Ostroh Academy organised an event titled Reading Shevchenko’s Poems Together. Sharing the opinion that knowing and reading Shevchenko’s poems is the best way to honour his talent, they distributed leaflets with his poems among the town dwellers.
