Long live Ostroh Academy students!
September 01, 2013
More than 400 young men and ladies from different parts of Ukraine became students of the Ukrainian Oxford. On 1 September, the solemn initiation ceremony Inauguration-2013 was held at the National University of Ostroh Academy. According to our traditions, the event featured a staged scene with the well-known figures from the past, namely Princess Halshka and Prince Vasyl-Konstiantyn Ostrozkyi, the founders of the first higher education establishment in Eastern Europe, as well as prominent figures of Ostroh cultural and educational centre. It was also attended by friends and patrons of the present-day University, among them being a known Ukrainian scholar Mykola Zhulynsky, Director of Shevchenko Institute of Literature and Academician of Ostroh Academic Brotherhood, Roman Vasylyshyn, a protector of NaUOA, and Ostroh Mayor Oleksandr Shyker.
In the presence of the teaching staff and guests, freshers took the oath of Ostroh Academy student and received the Bible as a present.
The lecturers who defended their dissertations in the past year also took the oath. We now have four more doctors and fourteen candidates of science.
During the first day of their student life, the freshers had an opportunity to attend lectures about Taras Shevchenko and the formation of Ukranian national identity delivered by Mykola Zhulynsky and Petro Kraliuk, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies
In the end of the day, the new standing ethnographic exhibition was launched in the underground gallery of Ostroh Academy.
