November 13, 2012
Today, students of the National University of Ostroh Academy had a unique opportunity to communicate with the world-known composer, conductor and musician Roman Revakovych, a man who was born and grew up in Poland, though always considered himself to be a Ukrainian.
"I took up music at the age of 15. Since then, I've plunged into the world of music culture, and felt myself a citizen of the world. Later I graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw where I studied the theory of music. In those times I learned about choir Zhuravli. This choir was a phenomenon in Poland gathering Ukrainians scattered all over the country as a result of Operation Wisła", told Mr. Revakovych.
In 1982 he began leading the choir. A trip of Zhuravli to Ukraine became a landmark event in their activities.
During the meeting Ostroh Academy students invited Roman Revakovych to hold a lecture course on the popularization of Ukrainian art around the world. On behalf of the teaching staff and students, Rector Pasichnyk presented the composer with a certificate of appreciation for his distinguished contribution to the development of the national culture, and a copy of encyclopaedia Ostroh Academy of the 16th-17th Centuries.
