The draft Law On the Principles of State Language Policy adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 5 June 2012 does not contribute to the consolidation of the Ukrainian nation. Moreover, it disunites Ukrainians on grounds of language and contradicts Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine and the European Charter for Regional Languages or Minority Languages.
We believe that the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine issued on 5 June 2012 On Adoption of the Draft Law of Ukraine on the Principles of State Language Policy should be reversed. The second reading and adoption of this law as a whole should be prevented because it contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine.
