Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered the bill under No. 9176 about the nationwide commemoration of 1160th anniversary of Ukrainian statehood in 2012.
It should be reminded that it was the initiative of student community of Ostroh Academy National University, since according to the chronicle The Tale of Bygone Years, our land began to be called Ruska in 852, and in the same year the army of Rus then having Kyiv as its capital marched to the capital of Byzantium.
A working conference in this regard has already been held in Ostroh Academy with the assistance of leading historians. The work celebration agenda of marking this remarkable event is also being discussed in the university.
