The Department of Computational Linguistics is one of the field-specific departments of the Educational and Research Institute of Linguistics, providing training in the programme subject area 035 Philology, speciality 035.10 Applied Linguistics at the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) level of higher education (full-time and part-time).
The academic activity for Bachelors and Masters at the Department is ensured by a team of highly qualified lecturers possessing scientific degrees and academic ranks.
Tasks
The Department's work is focused on two directions: educational and research activities.
Educational activities at the Department are designed to ensure practical applicability. We create and methodologically support bachelor's and master's degree programs, including disciplines such as Fundamentals of Computational Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning for Linguistic Applications, Linguistic Databases and Corpus Research. Our professional internships, practical training, and practical classes are conducted closely with IT companies, ensuring our students can apply their knowledge to real projects. The Department prepares highly qualified specialists in computational linguistics capable of working in the academic environment, IT companies, and research institutes.
The Department's research activities focus on natural language processing, developing new methods and algorithms for text analysis, machine translation, computer lexicographic systems and semantic analysis, and cooperation with other universities to develop new approaches in computer linguistics. Other research areas include active involvement in international research consortia and conferences on computational linguistics, holding annual meetings, seminars and roundtables to discuss new trends in computational linguistics, and publishing research results in prestigious journals, which will help to enhance the Department's reputation at the international level.
