Apostille

The Apostille is a legal regime of recognition of the legal validity of documents to be used abroad. The Apostille came as an alternative and universal certification procedure for documents, issued in one country, but beyond its borders. In contrast to the consular legalization, the Apostille certification requires less time and an apostilized document may be used in more than one country.

In Ukraine, the bodies authorized to issue Apostilles are the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is authorized to affix an Apostille to public documents related to the areas of science and education.

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine issues Apostilles for documents issued by justice bodies and courts, as well as documents prepared by Ukrainian notaries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issues Apostilles for all other documents.

 The Apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature of the person who singed the document, as well as the authenticity of the seal and stamp complimenting the signature.

    The Apostille is a stamp measuring at least 10х10 cm, affixed either to the document or a separate special page bound to the document.

    For apostilization you need to present:

      1. Original document confirming education in a state-approved format which needs to be apostilized;
      2. Two photocopies of this document without notarization or any other certification;
      3. If you are exempt from the service fees – the original and copy of the document confirming the right for exemption from service fees (for document holders);
      4. Application in the approved format;
      5. During the visit an applicant has to present his/her passport;
      6. Documents are required to be presented in a transparent file.
