International scientific student online-conference “Russia’s War in Ukraine: Retrospective, Impact and Prospects”

Student council of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations and National Security at the National University of Ostroh Academy together with Forum of Young Diplomats and Scientific Circle of International Relations at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University from Poland have organized and held international scientific student online-conference “Russia’s War in Ukraine: Retrospective, Impact and Prospects”.
The participants of the conference were 60 students and doctoral students of 29 universities from 9 European and Asian countries – Georgia, Spain, Kosovo, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Taiwan and Czech Republic, including four students of the Ostroh Academy.
Prof. Dmytro Shevchuk, Dr.Sc. Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching at the National University of Ostroh Academy made an opening speech and Katarzyna Marzęda-Młynarska, Ph.D. Habil. Vice-Director of the Institute of International Relations at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University introduced an opening lecture titled “Weaponization of food in the context of war”.
During the conference historical aspects of the war were highlighted; impact on economy, energy sector, humanitarian situation and culture were discussed as well as changes in geopolitics and regional politics. There were discussions about the prospects of Ukraine’s reconstruction after the war, and comparison with other regional conflicts such as conflict in Georgia and tensions around Taiwan.
Students of our university discovered hybrid war as a threat of the 21st century; the impact of the Russian Orthodox Church on the opinion of international community regarding Ukraine; regional cooperation within the Lublin Triangle Alliance and the Youth Lublin Triangle, Ukraine’s cooperation with Visegrad Group.
“Holding so intensive international conference and receiving patronage of Ukrainian and Polish think-tanks and student organizations, of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin, of the National University of Ostroh Academy and the Maria Curie-Skłodowska Univeristy only strenghten faith in students and belief that a will has a great potential. This event let us deepen cooperation with international partners, aspired for new ideas, which I hope will come true in comming future, and what is the most important this event once again arised Ukrainian question in agenda of more than a hundred of students, doctoral sudents, professors and scientists from around the world, that is why I am thankful to everyone engaged in this procces.”
