On June 4, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted an international conference entitled "The Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1920 in Ukrainian Collective Memory".
The co-organizers of the event were the Department of History of the NUOA and the Center for East European Studies of University of Warsaw. The main aim of the conference was to establish a dialogue between young scientists from Poland and Ukraine. Both professors and students from two universities have taken part in it. The moderator of the discussions was lecturer of the Center for East European Studies of University of Warsaw, Dr. Kazimiezh Vuitsitski.
The reports of the participants were devoted to various aspects of the studies dedicated to the Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1920. In particular, special attention was paid to the historiography of this problem (by Kshyshtof Zaretskyi, Denys Havryliuk), the relations between the UNR and Poland in 1919 (by Nazar Martyniuk), the religious situation in Volyn on the eve of the First World War (by Nataliia Katspzhak), the problems of historical memory of the events of the Ukrainian revolution in the beginning of the twentieth century (by Vitold Dobrovolskyi, Serhii Vlasiuk), the issue of the unification of the UNR and ZUNR (by Emil Khrul).
The discussion of these topics enabled the creation of a platform for the development of a common narrative of Ukrainian-Polish history, which will undoubtedly contribute to overcoming mutual historical stereotypes and provide a ground for further dialogue between historians from Ukraine and Poland.
Prof. of the Department of History Vitalii Yaremchuk summed up discussions between young scientists, emphasizing the importance of studying of this period in Ukrainian history, as well as outlining possible directions for further study of the Ukrainian revolution.
