The Dictation Dedicated to International Literacy Day at Ostroh Academy
September 08, 2016
Following a good tradition, the dictation dedicated to International Literacy Day has been organised at the National University of Ostroh Academy. Not only the students, but also the faculty of the university participated in it.
This year everyone had the opportunity to test their knowledge of Ukrainian spelling.
The event was started with the salutary address given by the Head of Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature Ivan Khomiak:
«Those who care about their Fatherland do their utmost to preserve, develop and improve the main attribute of our country, which is Ukrainian language. On this festive day we gathered here to prove that the Ukrainians still remain the nation with one of the highest levels of literacy in the world».
The topic of the dictation done by the students and the faculty of Ostroh Academy was symbolic. This year the title of the text was «Students’ Day». The dictation contained the words which are the most frequently used by Ostroh Academy students and the most commonly misspelled words.
Illia Matviichuk, a 4th year student of Faculty of Humanities shares his ideas:
«I like doing dictations very much. I think, it helps us to improve our standards of speech and encourages us to study the nuances of our language. It was also unusual to do the dictation sitting next to our lecturers. In addition, the opportunity to do the dictation was given not only to language students, but also to everyone who was willing to do it. In my opinion, one’s speciality does not matter, because every citizen of our country should know Ukrainian».
