Head of the State Committee for Nationalities and Religion Teaching at Ostroh Academy
March 03, 2008
The Head of the State Committee for Nationalities and Religion Oleksandr Sahan visited Ostroh Academy National University. Since Mr Sahan is an OA lecturer, it was not a business trip, but a visit to deliver a lecture for the students of Religion Studies Department. He teaches the courses of Worldwide Orthodoxy, and Theoretical Problems of Religion Studies Development.
It has been some eight years already since Professor Oleksandr Sahan, PhD, has been co-operating with Ostroh Academy. It all started when Ostroh Academy Vice-Rector for studies and scholarly activities Petro Kraliuk invited Mr Sahan to give a lecture on the development of Orthodoxy in Ukraine, because his research into the Ukrainian Orthodoxy allowed him to distinguish it from the Orthodoxy in Byzantium and Bulgaria. For three years Ostroh Academy has been the only educational establishment the professor continues teaching co-operation with.
According to Mr Sahan, Ostroh Academy is characteristic of the support, particularly from the Rector’s office, university departments and lecturers, and students’ desire to gain the maximum of knowledge, all of which are exceptionally important to create a high-quality intellectual product. “I am always under a positive impression of the work here, since Ostroh Academy has team work in mind, and strong scholarly ties between students and lecturers”, he said.
